Be sure to check out all the great work in the Communication Arts annual just released this week.  Tons of great work.  I was honored to be included again in the advertising category.  Only 125 projects were selected out of 4685 entries.

Photo District News does a semi-regular column called “Who’s Shooting What” covering the latest and best ad campaigns shot around the world.  The talent pool in these features is of the highest caliber and I’ve found a lot of inspiration from this column.  My geriatric hula girl image shot for Eaton Automotive was included in the column and also used to represent the entire feature in their international emails.  Thanks to David Walker and PDN…

A Photo Editor blog has come to be one of the most respected and widely read blogs in the photography industry.  There’s a surplus of important interviews, work, and information to be found there.  My rep and I were just interviewed about my geriatric hula girl ad in a column called “Still Images in Great Advertising”.  Many thanks to Rob Haggart and Suzanne Sease.

The interview and feature can be found here

I was profiled in Comm Arts “Fresh” a couple years ago and before I had a blog.  There’s been a lot of folks linking through to my work from that feature so I’m posting it here as well.  It was a thrill and honor to be profiled so early in such an infamous venue.  I’ve grown exponentially as an artist since then but I still look back fondly on that time and have always had a great appreciation for Comm Arts…

2011 has been a fantastic year.  My team and I have covered a lot of ground and worked on some great campaigns as well as personal work.  Stay tuned in January for some big news…

Last month I took on a wonderful editorial project photographing a “back to basics” grass fed beef farm.  A full day spent frolicking with 37 crazy piglets makes for a great day in my book.  I grew up in Colorado in a small town and I was fortunate enough to have a grandfather who kept a small farm when I was a kid.  Every week my family would spend Sunday at the farm and I was able to experience the joy of  small, hand-cared for, farm life playing with the cows and hiding in the corn fields.  I roamed wild with my Red Rider BB gun for hours on end.  Now that my grandparents are many years gone, it’s been wonderful to take several projects that allow me to revisit a culture and lifestyle that’s so woven into my childhood.

I will post several new portfolio images on my main site in the next month from this shoot as well as a similar personal project photographing an exclusive quail and boar hunting club as a part of my ongoing series capturing the authentic South.

Next year, I will release a small edition, wood-clad, hand made book featuring a selection of images from my time in the South that I hold dear and that speak to the true South that I’ve come to know…

Just wrapped the final retouching last week on a second project for Eaton’s auto division with the Brunner agency.  It was a very engaging process that was photographed from balmy downtown Atlanta to some 11,000+ foot peaks in Colorado and New Mexico.  Should be able to post the 7 final ads soon but here’s some behind the scenes shots for now…

Fashion photography isn’t usually something I focus on but occasionally the right scenario reveals itself and I’m inspired to put my own spin on it.  This was the case with an editorial series I photographed several months ago for South Magazine.  I was honored to find out that the series won the gold in the “Best Photography” category at the Gamma Magazine Awards.  The publisher and I concepted the idea together which focuses on hipster / street chic fashion and it’s spread to the Southeast.  This is my kind of fashion photography and it was a lot of fun to shoot…

Judges comments: “It is not often I come across magazine photography that  makes me stop and appreciate the art of it. South Magazine’s Street Chic created an essay filled with incredible imagination and creativity. The images are fresh, joyous and has reminded me that there are indeed still so many great ideas out there to be made into great photography. Outstanding.”

Art director Rick Bryson from Brunner was nice enough to bring me a spike from the 2011 Addy Awards during our latest shoot.  We received several silvers for last year’s Eaton campaign we worked on together.
